If you're looking for a New Year's resolution which will benefit you from head to toe, inside and out, then look no further. Physically yoga can help with weight loss, the practice will keep your body healthy whilst opening up muscles and preventing injury. We often overlook the importance of nourishing our mental health, which is where a regular practice comes in. Benefit from a calm and focused mind. We've caught up with trainer Danielle Willmsen to find out more...
Q: Why has yoga become the go-to workout for millennials?
I hope that in a world where everyone is pulling at us from all sides, where absolutely everything is geared to distract us, yoga can be an anchor to bring us back to the present. At the end of the day, you need your mind-body connection more than WIFI.
Q: How often should you do it?
How long is a piece of string?
Q: What are the key physical and mental benefits?
Movement is a shortcut to happiness. It infuses you with endorphins to make you feel like a superhero. Yoga takes us beyond other exercises when it uses focus points like breath work to help train our minds to be challenged but calm. It has a reputation for making you more flexible, which it definitely can, but a balanced practice will help you become stronger too.
Q: What would your ideal training week look like?
I'd be on a beach with an outdoor rig and unlimited access to puppies and sun. In London I try to keep a balance incorporating weight sessions, cardio, aerial, climbing, and of course a regular yoga practice to tie it all together.
